Computational Chemistry on Quantum Computers: A gentle introduction
In just a few years, we might be witnessing the arrival of quantum computers, which promise to revolutionise many areas with hard computing problems. Quantum computers hold the promise of solving many problems exponentially faster than the classical bitware. One area that would benefit from quantum computing is computational chemistry: the goal of calculating energies with 'chemical accuracy' required by bio and medical research could be tantalisingly close.
In this talk, I will present and discuss the near-term goals in computational chemistry applications; methods used for noisy quantum computers, and describe practical schemes and benchmark cases.
