Public Engagement

Computing is at the heart of modern science, supporting changes that improve all of our lives. To highlight this vital role, the Scientific Computing Department (SCD) regularly engages with a variety of public audiences - including schools, students and families. A key part of the Public Engagement programme is to engage students, and importantly teachers, with computing. There is an increased emphasis on coding and computing from government and within the national curriculum, and so we are looking at new ways of using STFC's computing work to enthuse students.

Technician Commitment Rewards Outstanding Teamwork
The stellar work produced by members of STFC Scientific Computing’s Remote3 team has been rewarded with a prize in this year’s STFC Technician Commitment Awards.
Continuing to inspire a new generation of computer scientists
Remote3 is a Spark Award funded school robotics project, led by the University of Edinburgh in partnership with the Science and Technology Facilities Council's (STFC) Scientific Computing Department (SCD), Boulby Laboratory and Public Engagement Team.
