Stefano is a Principal Computational Scientist at STFC Daresbury Laboratory. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Manchester in 2010 with a thesis on “LES and hybrid RANS/LES turbulence modelling in unstructured finite volume code and applications to nuclear reactor fuel bundles". Stefano continued working at the University of Manchester as a PDRA on Hybrid RANS/LES modelling (2011) with particular attention to heat transfer and in the ReDAPT project (2012-2013). After joining STFC in 2013 Stefano has worked on many fields on aeroacoustic, turbomachinery, nuclear thermal hydraulics and more recently on air quality. In his research has worked with many companies such as Dyson, EDF Energy and BAE SYSTEMS. Currently Stefano is the STFC project lead for the CCP Turbulence (https://www.ukturbulence.co.uk/ccp-turbulence.html) working on porting to modern hybrid HPC architectures some of the UK flagships CFD codes.

Stefano's research interests are:

  • Turbulence modelling mainly in LES and DNS
  • Thermal hydraulics with a particular focus on nuclear applications
  • Turbomachinery and acoustic
  • Large scale CFD solvers for exa-scale computing
