The
ICAT (link opens in a new window)
suite of data management tools are developed and maintained by SCD's Software Engineering Group. These include tools for data cataloguing, data access and data download.
They are designed with the data management requirement and processes of facilities in mind and are used
within ISIS, Diamond Light Sources, and Central Laser Facility.
ICAT is being developed as an open source collaboration and is being used within facilities around the world.
The running costs of each ISIS instrument are as much as £11,000 per day, so it is important that experimenters can make the best use of the available time. IDAaaS, the ISIS-specific instance of SCD's Data Analysis as a Service architecture, intends to support rapid storage, cataloguing and initial processing of experimental data, so that experimenters can determine quickly whether adjustments to the experiment conditions are required.
