​​​​​​I joined STFC as a Graduate software engineer in 2018, and have had 2 main projects since. The first project I worked on aimed to develop a machine learning (ML) method for analysing data from ISIS’s neutron scattering experiments in an attempt to reduce the time for either collecting data, or analysing it. I learned a lot about various ML algorithms and had the​ chance to test them on real data, which resulted in a paper which is currently being submitted. My second project was an international collaboration with the ATLAS team at CERN to develop additional functionality for the Rucio tool. Rucio orchestrates the transfers for the data coming out of the experiment to ensure it’s available for those who need it. The features I’m developing will make it viable for much smaller experiments to benefit from this across a range of scientific communities. Prior to STFC, I graduated with a Masters in Mathematics and Computer Science (MMath) from the University of York in 2017. In previous roles, I have worked for SCISYS (Jan 2018-Aug 2018) and BAE Systems (Summer 2014-Summer 2015, Summer 2016). At SCISYS I worked on a consultancy project with SIEMENS for the new Cross-Rail software and throughout my degree I worked for BAE first as an Industrial Placement Student, and then again as a Contractor the following summer. At BAE, I was part of the Computational Engineering team, and worked on various software systems, as analyst, software engineer and as a quality controller.​
