I joined the STFC Graduate Scheme in September 2020 after graduating with an MPhys Physics from Durham University. I have so far completed two rotations within SCD, and will soon be moving on to the Cloud Operations group in a DevOps role.
My first rotation was developing DAFNI (Data & Analytics Facility for National Infrastructure). This online browser-based platform allows researchers to upload and share datasets and models, promoting collaboration and enabling advanced workflows. This role mainly involved improving the platform's robustness and adding new features for users.
My second rotation was with the Scientific Machine Learning group, working on a fundamental research project in representation learning. My supervisor and I developed a new algorithm to train a certain family of generative models, namely Variational Autoencoders, which improves the disentanglement achieved by the model, and its controllability.
